Thomas J. ?Jim? Burlingame, 71, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Monday, July 12, 2010, in Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, Illinois.
Services are 10:00 a.m. Friday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Thomas James Burlingame was born November 5, 1938, in LaHarpe, Illinois, the son of Ross Sr. and Wilma Canon Burlingame. Graduated from Erie, Illinois, High School, and served in the U. S. Air Force. He married Joy Dean Carnahan Milem on February 3, 1962, in Silvis. He was employed at IH Farmall Works, Rock Island, from 1965 until the plant closed in 1985. He then worked at Navistar, retiring from the Springfield, Ohio, plant in 1998.
Jim was an avid NASCAR and football fan, and enjoyed fishing, yard work, and tinkering with his tractors. His family was important to him, and he especially loved spending time with them. Jim enjoyed all aspects of his life and loved a good laugh. He was a respectful man, a loving father, husband and grandfather, and always a ?man of his word.?
Jim is survived by his wife, Joy; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Barry Duncan of Colona, Illinois; a son, Steve Burlingame of Coal Valley; three grandchildren, Chad Duncan, Amanda Duncan, and Chase Burlingame; his mother, Wilma Rendleman of Rock Island; brothers, Ross Burlingame Jr. of Silvis, and John Rendleman of Rock Island; a sister, Marta Burdick of Hartford, Kansas; and step-brothers, Curt Medin of Yorkville, Illinois, and Richard Medin of Sebastian, Florida. He was preceded in death by his father, a grandson, Shane Duncan, and four step-brothers.
