Moline, Illinois
Jerry TeBockhorst, 66, of Moline, Illinois, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, surrounded by his wife and children.
In celebration of his extraordinary, fun-filled life, services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Visitation is 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jerry?s name to American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, 411 2nd St. NW, Rochester, MN 55901. Jerome Francis TeBockhorst was born on May 24, 1944, in Moline, Illinois, the son of Omer and Florence (Madsen) TeBockhorst. He married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Pennie A. Thorpe on July 11, 1964. He was employed as a firefighter for the city of Moline before opening TeBockhorst Accounting with his wife in 1973.
Jerry?s greatest love was the time he spent with his family. Whether it was a weekend trip with Pennie to an out of the way bar with great blues music, a jaunt to Lake Geneva with his grandchildren for a pre-holiday party, or an impromptu drive to Des Moines to see his son?s rock band, he could always be found with his family.
Jerry was the eternal optimist, never letting the fear of anything worldly get him down. Jerry embraced everything good in life: long drives along the river with the top down, spontaneous weekend getaways, and the pleasure of a good drink and great music. His infectious attitude and love of life was felt by everyone who met him. With a quick smile and lighthearted wit, he made everyone around him smile, laugh and appreciate life.
Jerry?s many club affiliations, past and present, include the Moline Breakfast Optimists, Independent Accountants Association, Catfish Jazz Society, Antique Auto Club of America, Mid States Jeepsters, The Flying Eyeballs, Bobe?s Gang and The Bullets.
Jerry is remembered for his passion for vintage cars, love of boating on the Mississippi river in the ?T-Bags?, and his interest in nostalgia from the 1940s, 50s and 60s. He could often be found tooling around town in a classic convertible.
He is survived by his beloved wife Pennie; a daughter, Jennifer Larson and her husband Andrew of Bettendorf, Iowa; a son, Andy TeBockhorst and his wife Teri of Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren, Holly, Felecia, Ceara and Veronika Larson; his mother, Florence TeBockhorst of East Moline; and siblings, Barbara Neasi of Moline, James TeBockhorst of Davenport, Iowa, and Ann Williams of Englewood, Florida. He was preceded in death by his father Omer, brother William and sister Joan.
