Jefferson Buren Lawson

February 26, 1927 — December 8, 2005

Jefferson Buren Lawson, 78, of New Windsor, died December 8, 2005 at Rosewood Care Center in Moline, IL.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Visitation is from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Buiral will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.
Jeff was born February 26, 1927 near Bentree, West Virginia. He was the seventh of fourteen children born to James A.G. Lawson and Frances I. McClellan. The family moved to the Quad City area in 1930, eventually settling in rural Mercer Co. He was united in marriage to Joette Elizabeth Cauley on September 19, 1953 in Moline, IL. She preceded him in death on March 11, 1991.
He was a veteran of the US Navy serving at the end of WWII in the Pacific theater. He was a proud lifetime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, retiring in November 1992. He took great pride in his trade as a heavy equipment operator, an occupation now carried on by both his sons. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW in Aledo, Illinois. He also farmed for many years and enjoyed raising coonhounds.
He is survived by children and spouses; Marcia & Mike Texidor, Rancocas, NJ, Jeffrey & Carmen Lawson, New Windsor, Bruce & Patti Lawson, Alpha; grandchildren Joshua & Jordan Texidor, Tyson Lawson, James Fiek, Erica Murphy, Cody, Colt, Chance & Corey Lawson; step grandchildren Heather & Matthew Box and great grandchild Raven Little; siblings and spouses Edward & Faye Lawson; Milan; Elmer & Donna Lawson; Geneseo: Paul Lawson, Reno, NV, Sally Hampton-Godshall, Ozark, AK and Beulah Sloan, Andover; sister in laws Gloria Lawson, Woodhull, Betty Lawson, Orion; brother in law Dwight Hampton, Milan and many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was proceeded in death by an infant son at birth, siblings Everett, Walter & Harold Lawson, Gladys Hampton, Irene Hampton and brothers Darrell & Arthur who died in infancy.
Jeff?s heart and his home were always an open door. ?Old Man Lawson? as he was affectionately known to all, will forever be missed by his family and the countless others who had turned to him for guidance and support over the years.
