Jean A. Beard

Jean Beard, 72, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Monday, August 22, 2016, in Rosewood Care Center, Moline, Illinois.

Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral Home, 1700 1st Street, Coal Valley. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to Ronald McDonald House, Iowa City, Iowa.

The former Jean Ann Hoskins was born December 27, 1943, in Rock Island, Illinois, to Vernon and Dorothy (Anderson) Hoskins. She graduated from Moline High School in 1961, and married Edward Beard on February 1, 1964, in Coal Valley. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley, and the Illinois Railway Museum. She was a charter member of the Coal Valley Ambulance Service, and was the first woman to serve on the Coal Valley Fire Department. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, and knitting.

Jean is survived by her husband, Ed; four children and spouses, Julie Gabrielson of St. Paul, Minnesota, Amy and Steve Day of Woodhull, Illinois, Ed Jr. and Angie Beard of Orion, Illinois, and Edie and Dave Kutscher of DeMotte, Indiana; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Vernon Hoskins of Coal Valley, Connie Hast and her husband Jeff of New Windsor, Illinois, Kathy Crane and Judy Blankenship, both of Moline; and a sister-in-law, Sherry Hoskins of Coal Valley. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Jon Hoskins, and a great-grandchild.
