She was born December 11, 1923, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Alva and Alta (Dahl) Elder. Janet graduated from Shimer College and was an elementary school teacher. She married Paul William Moen on July 8, 1945, in Madison, Wisconsin. Longtime residents of the Quad Cities, Janet and Paul came to Moline in 1958. Paul was in private practice as a physician and surgeon until his retirement in 1986.
Janet's life was an embodiment of the scripture "love one another." There was truly not a person she didn't consider a friend. In her humble, gracious way she made everyone feel special. Things never mattered to her, but people did. She used to say that because she was an only child, she considered everyone a brother and a sister.
Janet was a member of PEO, King's Daughters, Rock Island County Medical Auxiliary, and Questers. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline, and a former member of Faith Lutheran Church, Moline. She loved poetry, giving toasts and enjoyed traveling the world with her beloved Paul. Together they visited every continent but one.
Janet is survived by her three children and spouses, Chris and Leanna Moen of Moline, Tim and Paulette Moen of Wheaton, Illinois, and Maggie and Lee Valenta of Edina, Minnesota; nine grandchildren and spouses, Todd Moen, Britt and Brett Estwanik, Lars and Marisa Moen, Lindsay and Chad Jones, Kelly Moen, Alex Moen, Thomas and Sarah Valenta, Natalie and Bobby Hunter and Caroline Valenta; and three great-grandchildren, Jackson and Cora Jones and James Estwanik. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, and son, Thomas William Moen.
Janet, known affectionately as "Momo" leaves a great legacy. Not only did she consider every person more important than herself, but she truly loved The Lord. When recently asked what one piece of advice she would give to see a person through life, she answered. "No matter what, trust God."
The family would like to thank everyone at Friendship Manor, her doctors, nurses, and beloved care-givers.
The family invites you to share stories and condolences and light candle in Janet?s memory at www.TrimbleFuneralHomes.com
