James Edward Moran

April 12, 1928 — October 11, 2006

Coal Valley, Illinois
James E. Moran, 78, passed away at his home in Coal Valley, Illinois on Wednesday, October 11th, 2006, after an extended illness.
Jim was born April 12, 1928, in Moline, Illinois, to Arthur & Teresa (Cerra) Moran. He married Nona Johnson in 1950 and moved to Coal Valley in 1958.
Visitation will be held at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, on Friday, October 13, 2006 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a wake service at 4:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley, on Saturday, October 14, 2006 at 11:00 am, with entombment to follow at St. Mary?s Mausoleum in East Moline.
Jim served proudly in the US Marine Corps from 1947?48. He was a 37 year employee of Bendix Corp., where he worked as a supervisor in the engineering department. Being politically active, he served as the Coal Valley Mayor and Trustee for several terms, but the panicle of his long and distinguished record of community service was serving as a lieutenant in the C.V. Volunteer Fire Department. His 30 years of unselfish devotion and professionalism on the Department earned him respect from all the area Departments.
As co-founder of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Jim?s involvement and devotion to the church was felt throughout the parish.
Jim and Nona?s greatest achievement was their family and their best moments were spent with them at their cottage at Lake Tomahawk, WI. Jim?s only real vice was being a Packer fan.
Preceded in death by his loving wife Nona, daughter Janet, his brother George, granddaughter Rhonda and a great-granddaughter Trinity. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Albracht (Bill), Deborah Ketner (John), both of Moline; Joyce Flynn, Matherville; his son James of Milan; and his sister Alice Dailing (Rich) of Rock Island. Jim also loved Nona?s children prior to their marriage and considered them his own. They are Kay Harris (Gaylan) of Texas and Elbert Baker (Nancy) of Chicago.
In his latter years, a never-ending source of joy and love was his 15 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, it is Jim?s final wish the donations be made in his name to the St. Maria Goretti statue fund for the Church. Accomplished area artist John Ketner, son-in-law, has been retained to create the sculpture.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Death is not the end, it is only the beginning.
