James E. Thor

James E. Thor, 98, of Sherrard, Illinois, died Monday, August 1, 2022, at his home in Macomb, Illinois.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. Burial is in Western Township Cemetery, Orion. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or one’s favorite charity.

James Edras Thor was born June 14, 1924, in Sherrard, Illinois, the son of Gust Edras and Eva (Hergert) Thor. He graduated from Sherrard High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning several commendations including two Bronze Battle Stars. He married Jean Marie Bush on August 27, 1948, in Rock Island, Illinois. She died February 17, 1992.

He worked at various factories over the years, retiring from Gates Rubber Company in Galesburg, Illinois. He enjoyed fishing and reading.

James is survived by two children, Lynn Kempher of Macomb, and Michael Thor of Peoria, Illinois; five grandchildren, Christopher (Laura) Kempher, Kara (Dr. Patrick) Renick, Craig (Kristyn) Kempher, Amy (Evan) Spirrison, and Angela (David) Schnobel; 13 great-grandchildren; and Jean’s brother and sisters-in-law, James and Shirley Bush of Coal Valley, and Joan Bush of Minnetonka, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Bush; and siblings, Harry Thor, Jr. and Dorothy Cameron.
