James (Jim) Curtis Lindeen was born in Crookston, Minnesota, to Mena and Carl Lindeen on January 20, 1930. He later moved to North Mankato, Minnesota, and attended Mankato High School. In 1948, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served in the Pacific theater during the Korean War. He was a sonar man and captain's phone-talker on the USS Currier, USS Rupertus and USS Trathen, serving until 1952.

After his tour of duty, Jim enrolled in Mankato State Teacher's College and after that the University of Minnesota. In 1956, Jim married Edie Mutzke and in 1960 they moved to Denver, Colorado. During this time, they had two daughters, Cindy and Sally. In Denver, Jim was an engineer with Martin Marietta and worked on many projects. Some of his favorites include the Titan missile transporter, the Viking Mars Lander, the Skylab, and a Man Maneuvering Unit. Jim also worked for Stems Rogers, American Coleman Company and had many moonlighting jobs of which the Lake Eldora Ski Area snow-making machine was a favorite.

In 1986, Jim moved to Seattle Washington where he was a contract worker for Boeing International at the 747 facility in Everett. During that time, he developed a side business engraving signs, labels and badges (SLAB), which he continued until 2013. In 1987 he married Elma Burdick. Together, they enjoyed many years in the Seattle area. Jim was a loyal member of the Elks Lodge in Lynnwood, Washington, serving many roles, eventually leading to Exalted Ruler. He enjoyed traveling to many destinations for Elks conferences.

In 2000, Jim and Elma moved back to Denver and in 2013, Jim moved to Moline, Illinois. Jim loved designing and building home projects throughout his life. Wherever he lived, his handiwork could be seen and enjoyed. He was very proud of his service in the Navy and talked about it often. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Jim is survived by his daughters, Cindy (Ken) Martin of Morrison, Colorado and Sally (Dave) Meier of Moline, Illinois; grandchildren, Curtis (Kimberly) Meier, Austin (Kristen Mueller) Martin, Brendan (Rebecca) Meier, Lauren (Nate) Penz and Travis Meier; great grandchildren, Nolan Meier and Adeline Meier; and many nieces and nephews.
