Port Byron, Illinois James C. Kindred, 74, of Port Byron, died Thursday, October 14, 2004, in Big Meadows Eden Alternative Home in Savanna, Illinois. Joint funeral services with his wife, Wanda, who died Sunday, are 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Rock Island, with The Reverend Janet Waychoff officiating. Burial is in National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal, where Moline American Legion will present military honors. Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Memorials may be made to the church, where he was a member. James Carroll Kindred was born July 6, 1930, in Sikeston, Missouri, the son of William Edward and Frances Lucille (Stacy) Kindred. He served in the United States Air Force from 1946 to 1949. He married Wanda Virginia Chambers on August 12, 1956, in Rock Island. Jim worked in plant protection at International Harvester for 30 years, during which time he served as both chief and assistant chief. After his retirement in 1983, he worked at the Quad City Downs, managed motels in Aurora and Moline, and drove for Staack Florist. He loved to work and enjoyed playing poker on the riverboats. He spent five years caring for his wife in their home during her illness. Jim is survived by his wife, Wanda; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Jana Kindred of Hampton; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Todd McKenzie of Los Angeles; three grandchildren, Matthew, David, and Emma Kindred; and a sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and Russell Bridgewater of Batesville, Arkansas.
