Aledo, Illinois Memorial Services for James A. Kernan, 77, of Aledo will be Monday at 2:00 PM at the Sunbeam United Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, Aledo. Visitation and fellowship will follow the services. Private burial will be at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Jim Kernan Memorial Fund. Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo, is in charge of arrangements. Jim died on Friday, August 2, 2002 at the Mercer County Hospital, Aledo. Jim was born on October 28, 1924, in Seaton, Illinois to Erwin and Elsie (Kemp) Kernan. He married Wilma "Billie" Sperry on August 1, 1947, in Aledo. Jim served in the United States Army during World War II. He was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal for 30 years. He was a member of the Aledo VFW Post #1571. He also enjoyed gardening and fishing. Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Billie; 4 sons and their wives: James G. and Marti Kernan of Moline, Richard E. and Linda Kernan of Mason, Michigan, Mike and Doni Kernan of Geneseo and Terry Kernan of Colona; 2 daughters and a son-in-law: Patricia and Jerry Hamilton of Geneseo and Robin Sikir and companion, Brian Days of Virginia, IL; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers and their wives: Paul and Jo Kernan and Fred and Joyce Kernan all of Aledo, Ed and Chris Kernan of Phoeniz, AZ and Kenny Kernan of Moline and a sister and brother-in-law, Ella Mae and Charles LuAllen of Aledo. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; 2 grandsons; a granddaughter; 2 brothers; Charlie and Carl and 2 sisters, Dorothy McKnight and Isabelle Dow.
