Harvey J. Schmitt, 78, of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, February 8, 2007, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend Jerry Helms officiating. Entombment is in Memorial Park Mausoleum, Rock Island. Visitation is 2 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday. Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, Moline, where he was a charter member.
Harvey was born January 27, 1929, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of John and Julie (Harcarick) Schmitt. He graduated from St. Ambrose Academy in Davenport, and served in the U. S. Army from 1950 to 1952. He married Loraine Tucker on February 27, 1961, in Fayette, Alabama.
He worked for United Brick and Tile Company for two years, retiring in 1991, and previously worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Moline, for 11 years, and Moline Consumers for 25 years. He was a member of Tri-County Home Builders Association for many years, had been Cub Master for Cub Scout Pack #629 at Maple Grove School, and had formerly been active in the Moline Gospel Temple.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Loraine; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Ann Schmitt of Springfield, Illinois, and Todd and Tina Schmitt of Milan; three daughters and their husbands, Amy and Steve Castrey of Rock Island, Angela and Brian Gillette of Bettendorf, and Anita and Aron Johnson of Portland, Oregon; eight grandchildren, Zach, Christi and Chase Schmitt, Jenna and Trevor Schmitt, and Aaron, Nate and Rachel Gillette; four step-grandchildren, Amber, Jessica and Richard Downing and Ashley Garvey; and five step-great-grandchildren.
