Irene Hampton

Milan, Illinois Irene Hampton, 77, of Milan, Illinois, died Saturday, November 9, 2002, in Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. The Reverend Tom Wright will officiate. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Preemption United Methodist Church or Mississippi Valley Chapter ofAlzheimer's Disease. The former Neoma Irene Lawson was born August 22, 1925, in Bentree, West Virginia, the daughter of James and Frances (McClellan) Lawson. She married Ira Dwight Hampton on February 16, 1944, in Maquoketa, Iowa. She had worked at von Maur department store and also did demonstrations in various supermarkets. She was a member of Preemption United Methodist Church and enjoyed dancing. Irene is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dwight; three children and their spouses, Glenda and Fred Daley of Oroville, California, Dianna and Dale Wiersema of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Stephen and Phyllis Hampton of Cambria, Illinois; ten grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brothers, Everett Lawson of California, James Lawson of Milan, Illinois, Elmer Lawson of Geneseo, Illinois, Paul Lawson of Nevada, and Jeff Lawson of New Windsor, Illinois; and sisters, Sally Godshall of Arkansas, and Beulah Sloan of Cambridge, Illinois. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy, Harold, and Walter Lawson, and a sister, Gladys Hampton.
