I. Dwight Hampton, 90, formerly of Milan, Illinois, died Friday, March 16, 2012, in Aspen Health Care Center, Silvis, Illinois.
Services are 11:30 a.m. Friday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Buffalo Prairie Lodge #679 AF & AM will conduct Masonic services followed by a funeral service with The Reverend Cindy Rettig officiating. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, beside his beloved wife of 58 years, Irene. Visitation is from 9:30 to 11:30 Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer?s Association.
Ira Dwight Hampton was born Dec 22, 1921, in Foster, Illinois, the third of seven children of Willie and Violet (Mead) Hampton. He attended Viola and Aledo schools and received his GED in 1965. Dwight married Neoma Irene Lawson in Maquoketa, Iowa, on Feb 16, 1944. She passed away November 9, 2002. He mourned her until the day he died.
Dwight worked as a machinist at a John Deere plant and partnered with his brother-in-law, Ray DeMarlie, in the DeMarlie Trucking Co in Reynolds, Illinois, for 20 years. Then he was a truck driver at Rock Island Ready Mix, in Rock Island, Illinois, and a member of UAW until he retired at age 60. All through his life he farmed in Marston Center, Preemption and Reynolds. He was a member of Preemption United Methodist Church, Buffalo Prairie Lodge #679, AF & AM, and the Moose Lodge.
Dwight is survived by children and their spouses, Dianna and Dale Wiersema of Port Byron, Illinois, and Stephen and Phyllis Hampton of West Richland, Washington; grandchildren and their spouses, Lori Wiersema Messerschmitt, Julie Ann and Jimmy Roberson, Thomas and Michelle Jared, Lisa and Steven Keck, Denise and Steven St John, LuAn and Geoffrey Crowe, Steven and Kimmie Hampton, Eric and Jamie Hampton, Leah and Jamie Seeman-Wiersema, and Ian Hampton; 25 great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; six step-great-great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Cynthia Hampton of Joliet, Illinois, and Sally Godshall of Ozark, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Glenda Jo Daley; brothers, Edmund, Kenneth, William and Robert Hampton; and sisters, Claudia DeMarlie and Betty Jo Robbins.
