Howard L. Coon

Howard L. Coon, 82, of East Moline, Illinois (formerly of LeClaire, Iowa), passed away at home on Saturday, March 3rd, 2018.

Howard was born April 13, 1935 in Muscatine, Iowa. He was the son of Howard W. Coon and Lois McGinnis Fetters. Howard's step-father was Chester Fetters. Howard graduated from Davenport Central High School and attended St. Ambrose University. He served in the Army Reserves from 1953-1962. He was employed at Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric Company for 41 years, retiring June 16,1995. Howard married his wife of 22 years, Ruth Ann Moulton, on November 25, 1995.

Howard was an active member of The Blackhawk Aquarium Society and Senate Manor Computer Club. He also served on the board of the Gas and Electric Credit Union from 1993-1999. He enjoyed wood working, fishing, working crossword puzzles, playing euchre, dancing, and watching NFL football. He had a special bond with his friend, Phil Schneidewind, and their mutual loyalty to the Green Bay Packers. Howard looked forward to discussing wood working projects with his nephew, Gene Plutowski from Rochester, MN.

Howard is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann; his daughter and her significant other, Dr. Teresa Coon and Roger VanDonselaar Grinnell, IA; step daughter, Elizabeth Bruce, Sherrard IL; step son and spouse, Heath and Ashley Hollis, Moline IL; two granddaughters, Merissa Fussell, CO; Jenna Fussell, IA; five step grandchildren Alexis Nelson, Emily Bruce, and Haley Bruce, Sherrard; Drake Hollis and Trystan Hollis, Moline; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Frank and Helen Wyffels, two nieces, Kristin Wyffels, Moline and Shelly Plutowski, (Gene Plutowski), and two great nephews, Nicholas and William Plutowski, MN. Howard was preceded in death by his parents.

Howard's wife would like to thank his many caregivers from Unity Point, Unity Point Hospice, Dr. Steven Aguilar, family, and friends for their support and prayers.

Cremation will be entrusted to Trimble Funeral Home in Moline, Illinois. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
