Helen C. Johnson, 95, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Wednesday, December 14, 2022, in St. Anthony’s Continuing Care, Rock Island.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 19 in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park. Visitation is one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice in Helen’s memory.
The former Helen Carol Freeman was born August 26, 1927, in Moline, the daughter of Carl John and Mary (Winders) Freeman. She married Dorance Johnson on November 25, 1950, in Moline, and the couple had four children before separating in 1971. She then had a long-time companion of over 40 years, Clifford W. Cordell, who died March 20, 2015.
Helen worked at K-Mart and Sears before working at Bituminous Insurance Company for 19 years, retiring in 1992. She helped with her children’s Girl Scouts, PTA and softball. She enjoyed traveling, camping, dining out, and was an avid reader and movie buff. She was also a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and a fan of Arnold Palmer.
Helen is survived by four children, Janice (Greg) Golz of Rock Island, Georgette (Dave Dacon) Wells-Dacon of Bettendorf, Marilyn (Michael) King of Murrieta, California, and Darryl (Kelly) Johnson of Moline; 10 grandchildren, Nicholas (Mallika) Golz, Paul (Stacey) Golz, Anna Thomas, Cody (Andrea) Race, Aaron (fiancé Elane Edwards) Wells, Holly (Nick) Johnson, Corey (Vanessa) King, Chad (Kelsey) Crotts, Chelsie (Ben) Holke, and Chase Johnson; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl Freeman, Jr. of Silvis; and her former husband, Dorance Johnson. She was preceded in death by her companion, Clifford Cordell; sister-in-law, Betty Freeman; niece, Peggy Freeman; and nephew, Thomas Freeman.
