Harold W. Kadel Funeral Services for Harold W. Kadel, 92, of Joy will be Thursday at 10:00 AM at the Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3-7 at the church. Burial will be in Leech Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church or the Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge #679. Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo is in charge of arrangements. Harold died on Saturday, February 10, 2001 in Mercedes, Texas. Harold was born on August 2, 1908 in Duncan Township, Mercer County, Illinois to William and Mary (Wirtz) Kadel. He married Leona Barlett on March 15, 1937 in Muscatine, Iowa. Harold was a life long farmer in Duncan Township. He was a member of the Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church, Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge #679 and the Mercer County Farm Bureau. He was a past member of the Joy School Board and the Mercer County Zoning Board. Harold enjoyed fishing, playing cards and spending time with his friends in Texas the last 26 winters. Harold is survived by his wife Leona; a daughter, Sandra Higgins; a son and daughter-in-law, Daryl and Joyce Kadel all of Joy; a sister, Doris Wood of Moline; 5 grandchildren; Kyle and Ryan Higgins, Lori Smith, and Devon and Blake Kadel; and 6 great-grandchildren: Daniel and Sarah Higgins; Britni, Laci and Shayli Higgins and James ''Jamie'' Smith. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Bertha Ziegenhorn, a brother, Leonard, a grandson, Ethan Higgins and a son-in-law, Dale Higgins.
