Harold A. Rasmussen, 97, of Moline, Illinois, long-time community leader, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday in Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline, with The Reverend Dr. Joel Bexell and The Reverend Laura Koppenhoefer officiating. Entombment is in Moline Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Memorials may be made to the church or a favorite charity.
Harold Albin Rasmussen was born August 26, 1908, in Moline, the son of Christian and Henrietta (Petersen) Rasmussen. He graduated from Moline High School and married Teckla Lucille Malmrose on November 16, 1934. She died March 16, 2004. He owned and operated General Pattern Corporation, Moline, which he started in 1949, until his retirement in 1979.
Harold was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline, where he served on the Church Council and was chairman of the Building Committee for several expansion projects. He was past president of the Lutheran Hospital Board and served on the board for many years. He was the recipient of the first Modern Samaritan Award given by the Lutheran Hospital Foundation. He was instrumental in the planning and implementation of the Forsberg Village project. He was a member of the Moline Rotary Club for almost 50 years and served on its Board of Directors, and was a member of Doric Lodge #319, AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Moline, and Moline High 12 Club.
He had many and varied interests, including traveling, wood carving and gardening. He and his wife enjoyed spending winters in Hawaii and summers at their cottage on the Rock River. Harold was known for his joyous sense of humor, story telling, and hearty laugh by all who knew him. He was happiest when he was around his family and friends.
Harold is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Robert Schluter of Rock Island, and Bonnie and Ralph Stephenson of Moline; and three grandchildren and their families, Debra and Nicholas Rollick and their children Nicholas and Ashley, Darcy and Blake Anderson and their children Kelsey and Abby, and Scott and Stephanie Stephenson and their children, Rachel, Makenna and Carter. He was preceded in death by his wife and a brother, Clarence Rasmussen.
