Ruth Goodwin, 80, of Coal Valley, died Thursday, October 30, 2008, in Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, Illinois.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Monday in First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Tim Snart officiating. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the church. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, is entrusted with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the church.
The former Ruth Harriett Erlenbush was born September 3, 1928, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of John and Florence (Gross) Erlenbush. She married Thomas C. Goodwin on May 9, 1947, in Washington. She was employed as a clerk at Teske Pet and Garden Center. Moline, for 47 years, last working Tuesday.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley, for almost 50 years, and had belonged to Valley Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. She was an avid gardener and, in younger years, an avid bowler.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 61 years, Tom; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Philip Laxton of Moline, and Sarah and David Schafer of Sherrard; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jeffrey Philip and Michelle Laxton, Andrew Foster and Nicole Laxton, Stephanie and Brent Rueb, and Samantha and Jason Cochuyt; six great-grandchildren, Jacob Jeffrey and Jenna Nicole Laxton, Morgan Jane, Lacey Nicole, and Drew Foster Laxton; and Owen Rueb; and a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ellen and Leland Jeffries of Washington, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and one sister.
