Aledo, Illinois Gertrude M. Guthrie, 86, of Aledo, died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at Trinity West Medical Center, Rock Island. Funeral Services will be Sunday at 1:30 PM at Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Viola Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday from 4 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Connie Sue Smith Scholarship Fund or Mercer County Home Health Care. Gertrude Mae was born on April 17, 1916, in New Boston, Illinois to Elmer Baxter and Constance I. (Simcox) Johnson. She married Charles "Wylie" Guthrie on May 18, 1935, in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on September 30, 1978. Gertrude formerly attended the Viola Ladies Home Bureau and the Aledo Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed gardening, especially flowers, playing cards and club dancing. She was a wonderful cook, best known for her homemade noodles and chocolate angel food cake. Gertrude is survived by her mother, Constance I. Johnson of Aledo; two daughters, Beverley Powell of Colorado Springs and Joyce Smith and her husband, Marvin, of Aledo; a daughter-in-law, Carol Guthrie of Aledo; 3 grandchildren and their spouses, Tracy and Frank Kajdacsi of Colona, Deborah and Chuck Hacking of Colorado Springs, and Peggy and Randy McKee of Galesburg; 3 step-grandchildren, Sue and Lane Cummings of Aledo, Tim Smith of Chicago, and Tom Smith of Milan; 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Gertrude was preceded in death by her father; husband; a son, Charles E. Guthrie and a granddaughter, Connie Sue Smith.
