George S. Barton, 69 of Coal Valley, died Friday, October 8, 2004 at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.

Services are 10:30 AM, Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley with the Reverend Paul Pett of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan, IL, officiating. Visitation is Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial is in the Alpha Cemetery, Alpha, IL. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established.

George S. Barton was born July 23, 1935 in Canton, Illinois, the son of Clyde L. and Edith (Wittmyer) Barton. He graduated from Alwood High School in Woodhull, IL. George married the former Linda M. Tornes on March 20, 1983 in Milan. He was employed at the John Deere Harvester Works, in the Combine Manufacturing Division as a warehouse shipper for over 35 years, retiring in 1992. George was a member at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan. He was a volunteer for the Sherrard Ambulance Association. He enjoyed fishing and bowling with his brothers, and loved playing with his grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife, Linda; a son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Jodie Barton, Sherrard; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Randy Crawford, Sherrard, Kelly and Kevin Gasper, Moline, and Missy and Jon VanderLinden, Moline; two stepsons, Jay and Paul Schwartzkopf, both of Sherrard; seven grandchildren, Linaya Bennett, Tabitha and Morgan Crawford, Tyler and Kayla Gasper, and Seth and Millie Barton; a great-grandaughter, Kelsie McGuirk; six brothers and their spouses, Kenneth "Bake" and Marilyn Barton, Roy Barton, Gene and Thelma Barton, and Harold Barton, all of Alpha, Paul Barton, Viola, IL, and David and Loretta Barton, New Windsor, IL.
