George J. ?Jim? Davis, Sr., 89, of Sherrard, Illinois, died Saturday, June 11, 2005, in Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.
Funeral services are 7 p.m. Monday at Preemption United Methodist Church, Preemption, Illinois, with The Reverend Tom Wright officiating. Private burial will be Tuesday morning in Preemption Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church with a light supper being served following the funeral. Memorials may be made to the church, Sherrard Volunteer Ambulance, or Oak Glen Home. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, is in charge of arrangements.
George James Davis was born September 4, 1915, in Putnam County, Missouri, the son of Stewart and Daisy (Corporon) Davis. He married Harriett Ruth Evans on November 14, 1936, in Iowa City, Iowa. She died May 21, 1998. He farmed his entire life, and in earlier years, worked as a coal miner in Missouri and a carpenter in Iowa City. He was a member of Preemption United Methodist Church.
Jim is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Charles Krahl of Scottsdale, Arizona, Ruth and Ronald Fultz of Coal Valley, and Eileen and Thomas Olson of Sherrard; a daughter-in-law, Nina Davis of Bridgewater, New Jersey; a foster daughter and her husband, Jane and Jim Polesky of Springfield, Ohio; seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, two foster grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elaine Bengtson of Overland Park, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriett; his son, Dr. George James Davis Jr., two brothers and one sister.
