Gary P. Heitman

Gary P. Heitman, 83, of Davenport, Iowa, died Sunday, January 3, 2021, at Genesis East Medical Center, Davenport.

Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Private burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to The Christian Care Center, Rock Island, or the Riverbend Food Bank, Davenport.

Gary was born March 13, 1937, in Moline, Illinois, to Lawrence Calvin and Florence (Potter) Heitman. He graduated from Moline High School in 1955, and then honorably served in the US Navy. He attended Augustana and Blackhawk colleges. He married Carol (Perrine) Clark in 1986, in Davenport. He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal, as an Industrial Hygiene Technician. Gary enjoyed a successful career in marketing for local companies and as a consultant, prior to embarking on his second career in Occupational Health and Safety with The Rock Island Arsenal.

Gary was exceptionally creative and passionately pursued many hobbies, and especially enjoyed building models of historical ships, airplanes, automobiles and even a replica of the Quad City Airport from when he was employed there in the 1960s. Gary enjoyed collecting and refurbishing classic cars and was a proud member of the Mississippi Valley Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America.

Gary’s family includes his wife and love of his life, Carol; sons Gary (Faith) Heitman of Davenport, and David Heitman; stepson Gregory (Maria) Clark of Custer Park, IL, stepdaughter Dawn Clark (George Hendricks) of Davenport; brothers Larry Heitman, Davenport, and Mike (Mary Kay) Heitman of Tucson, AZ, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
