Capt. Gary L. Burrus, USAF Ret., 71, of Geneseo, Illinois, formerly of Tulsa, Oklahoma, died Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Trinity Rock Island.
Private services will be held at Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family.
Gary Lee Burrus was born December 10, 1940, in Salem, Illinois, the son of Lesley Leeroy and Lora Mae (Banks) Burrus. He married Bette ?Kay? Murray on May 27, 1959, in Tulsa.
Gary served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam, retiring in 1979. He received his Law Degree from the University of Tulsa. He worked for Buckeye Gas as Director of LP acquisitions, and later for the USPS as a mail carrier.
He was a member of the Izaak Walton League in Geneseo, and enjoyed fishing in the Giant Goose Conservation Area in Atkinson, and playing golf and softball in his younger years.
Gary is survived by his former wife, Kay, of Geneseo, three daughters, Karen (Chris) Morton of Burnsville, Minnesota, Teresa Glover of Allen, Texas, and Jennifer (Scott) Johnson of Geneseo; grandchildren, Rachel, Noah, and Lydia Morton, Jessica (Michael) Cartwright, Alex (Clarissa) Whitby, and Hunter Glover, and Hannah, Gabe, and Luke Johnson; great-grandchildren, Ali and Selene Whitby; and sisters, Gerry (Stoner) Arnold of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, and Cinda (Tom) Bothell of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
