Frederic Blodgett, 67, of Orion, Illinois, died Monday, April 26, 2010, in Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Services are 10:00 a.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, and 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley. The Reverend Jim DeBisschop will officiate. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, and will be followed by a Time of Sharing at 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Frederick Blodgett Memorial Fund which will be established in his name.
Frederick Victory Blodgett was born August 20, 1942, in San Fransisco, California, the son of Frederick Marion and Betty Jean Allbery Blodgett. He married Sandra Kay Plunkett on August 29, 1972, in Moline, Illinois. She died September 5, 2007.
Fred served in the United States Air Force as a Disbursement Accounting Supervisor, retiring as a Master Sargeant after over 20 years. He served in Air Force bases in England, Crete, and Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador. After marrying Sandy, they worked together at Air Force bases in Texas and Ohio, and at the NATO base in Izmir, Turkey. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked as a youth group supervisor for Arrowhead Ranch for 26 years, retiring in 2004.
He enjoyed cooking, entertaining and hosting friends with his wife, being Sandy?s ?Sous Chef?, and was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his wife both at home and camping or traveling around the world.
Fred is survived by a brother-in-law and his wife, Richard Patrick and Julie Plunkett of Rock Island, Illinois, nephews, Shawn Plunkett-Stewart and his wife, Rebecca, and their children, Grant and Abigail Stewart, and Ryan Plunkett, siblings, Sharon and Terry Burns, Diane Mathews, and Michael Blodgett, all of Logan, Ohio, step-siblings, Patricial Carey, Michael Carey, and Donald Westcott, and many close friends.
