Frank L. Granados , 72, of Rock Island, Illinois, went to be with Our Father on Monday, March 4, 2013, at Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois, surrounded by his family and friends. Frank led an inspirational, full life, and he will be long remembered for his contributions to family, church, and community.
A Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan, Illinois, with visitation one hour before the mass. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Frank Granados Memorial Fund. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is in charge of arrangements.
Frank was born on August 10, 1940, in Ottawa, Illinois, to Frank Sr. and Santos Aguilar Granados. He grew up in a large family with 12 siblings. Frank attended Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, Minnesota, and later attended college. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country well for 22 years. In 1968, at St. Mark?s Church in Peoria, Illinois, Frank married Mary Wamsley and began a new journey, one which he had been blessed with for the last 43 years!
Frank was a petitioner of St. Ambrose Church in Milan, Illinois. Frank had many accomplishments in his life: he founded and coached Silver Gloves Boxing Club in Peoria to help keep kids off the streets, helped coach boxers for Olympic trials, coached the Pekin Stars Hockey Team, was named Small Business Man of the Year, in 1984 he was one of 10 outstanding entrepreneurs in Iowa which lead him to meet President Ronald Reagin, and embarked in several business adventures including PECO Enterprises & QC Mart which he founded. Frank also enjoyed church, spending time with his family, boxing, & photography.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Mary; his children, William, Frank, Geralyn, Fredrick, and Jacqueline; 12 grandchildren; his step-mother, Mary Granados; and eight siblings.
