Davenport, Iowa Francis C. "Mac" McAvoy, 87, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Geneseo, Illinois, and Hope, Arkansas, died Saturday, December 14, 2002, in Fejervary Health Care Center, Davenport. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. The Rev. Msgr. Paul E. Showalter, St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, will officiate. Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation is one hour before the services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Fejervary Health Care Center, Davenport. Francis Carroll McAvoy was born June 25, 1915, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the son of Paul F. and Edith (Buell) McAvoy. He moved to Geneseo with his family in 1920. He married Kathryn Hartman in 1937. He and Kathryn raised their children in Geneseo. She died in 1979. He married Nell Potter in 1984. Mac was employed by Natural Gas Pipeline for 31 years. He started with the company in Geneseo in 1947, and transferred to Monahans, Texas, in 1972. He retired in 1978, and he and Kathryn moved to Hope, Arkansas in 1979. His hobbies were fishing, gardening and baking. He especially enjoyed making rag rugs on the loom he built himself, and knitting afghans and slippers. He gave these to his family, friends, and a nursing home in Hope, Arkansas. Mac is survived by his wife, Nell, who lives in Hope, Arkansas; five children and their spouses, Francis and Marcia McAvoy of Concrete, Washington, Carol and Kirby Platter of Rock Island, Mary Lavery of Phoenix, Arizona, John McAvoy of Ottawa, Illinois, and Mark and Joan McAvoy of Moorsville, Indiana; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn, a daughter, Barb, and a brother, Leo.
