Lucile Roberts, 95, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, October 1, 2006, in Hallmark Care Center, Mount Vernon, Iowa.
Private family services are 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial is in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Arrowhead Ranch, Coal Valley.
The former Frances Lucile Gitt was born January 27, 1911, in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of DeWitt W. and Ruth E. (Fisher) Gitt. She graduated from Rock Island High School and Iowa State Teachers College. She taught school for several years before her marriage to Edward H. Roberts on February 3, 1940, in Rock Island. She also taught private piano lessons.
Lucile was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, and also attended Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline. She was the first president of the Hamilton School PTA and belonged to Fortnightly Club and Lend-A-Hand Circle of King?s Daughters. She enjoyed traveling, reading, playing the piano, writing letters and nature.
Lucile is survived by her husband, Edward; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas E. and Kathryn Roberts of Marion, Iowa; a daughter, Ann A. Roberts of Davenport, Iowa; three grandchildren, Susan Maurice and her husband Steve, of Mt. Vernon, and Nicholas Roberts and Sara Roberts, both of Marion; great-grandchildren, Shannon Roberts and Mukesh and Mackenzie Maurice; a nephew, Stephen Hawes and his wife Kathy and their children, Carolyn and Craig, of Galesburg, Illinois; and a special friend from Hallmark Care Center, Louise. She was preceded in death by her sister, Marian Hawes, and a grandson, Randy Roberts.
