Thomas F. Levan, 90, of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, December 31, 2009, in his residence.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial bench to be placed at Niabi Zoo, Coal Valley.
Thomas Frank Levan was born June 8, 1919, in Red Star, Alabama, the son of John Horace and Nellie Caldwell Levan. He married Dorothy Jean VanHooser on August 25, 1943, in Rossville, Georgia; she died July 5, 2009. He served in the U. S. Army during WW II, and earned four bronze battle stars in the European Theater.
He was a member of the VFW in Shiprock, New Mexico.
Tom is survived by children, Charlotte (Lester) Donelson of Davenport, Iowa, Gail (Dale) Colter of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Sandra (Paul) Spain of Coal Valley, Illinois, F. Roger (Dorinda) Levan of Rock Island, Illinois, and Anita Borkhardt (Bob Happ) of Moline; a daughter-in-law, Julie Levan of Moline; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, Troy Levan, a great-granddaughter, Lily Borkhardt, two brothers, and two sisters.
