Coal Valley, Illinois Elmer E. Kimmel, 81, of Coal Valley, Illinois, formerly of Shelbyville, Illinois, died Wednesday, September 16, 2003, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island, Illinois. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, preceded by a Masonic Service at 10:45 a.m. Burial is in National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday. Memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church, 1818 East Mound Road, Decatur, Illinois 62526. Mr. Kimmel was born July 9, 1922, in Shelbyville, the son of Clarence and Ethel (Corley) Kimmel. He attended Shelbyville high School. He served in the U. S. Army in the European Theater during WW II. He was married to Elsie Hinton for 18 years. He married Vicki Anderson McKinney on August 25, 1992, in Cambridge, Illinois. He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1985 after working 34 years as a crane operator. He was a member of Valley Lodge #547, Coal Valley, American Legion Post #246, Moline, and VFW Post #2153, Moline. Fishing and gardening were among his hobbies. Elmer is survived by his wife, Vicki; step-children, Rex Hinton and his wife Becky of Camden, Arkansas, Ben Hinton and his wife Claudette of Downing, Missouri, Sam McKinney and his wife Missy of Middleton, Ohio, Julie Alfont and her husband Bobby of New Madrid, Missouri, and Dee Ann Matheson and her husband John of Joplin, Missouri; 11 step-grandchildren; 9 step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pauline Woolums of Decatur, Illinois.
