Mary Elizabeth Spencer, 96, of Moline, Illinois, formerly of Silvis, Illinois, died Saturday, December 18, 2010, in Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis, with Father Keith Walder officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary?s Cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the church. There will be no visitation. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is entrusted with arrangements.
The former Mary Elizabeth Potts was born October 5, 1914, in Bloomington, Illinois, the daughter of Caleb and Mary Theresa ?Susie? Romine Potts. She married Arthur N. Spencer in 1936, in Decatur, Illinois. He died in 1970. She was employed at Servus Rubber Company, Rock Island, for eight years, retiring in 1965, and also cleaned homes for many local families. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis, and enjoyed sewing, quilting, doll making, bear making, and reading. Mary cared for and loved all the children in her life. She loved her neighbors wherever she lived, and had so many dear friends throughout her life.
Mary is survived by four grandchildren and their spouses, JoJean and David DeGeeter of Illinois City, Illinois, Chris and Connie Murphy of Erie, Illinois, and Paul and Priscilla Spencer and Hope Kramer, all of Plano, Texas; seven great-grandchildren, Amber, Davey, Derek, Eric, Remi, Mandy, and Parker; three great-great-grandchildren, Zachary, Madison, and Ellie; a sister, Lorraine McGrath of German Hills, Illinois; and a special and dear friend, Susan Murphy of East Moline. She was preceded in death by her husband; two children, Suzann Murphy and Arthur Spencer, and eight siblings. May she rest in God?s arms forever.
