Elizabeth L. Wohlferth

Silvis, Illinois Elizabeth L. "Betty" Wohlferth, 86, of Silvis, formerly of Orion, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, in Illini Restorative Care, Silvis. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. Visitation will be one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to Niabi Zoological Society or a favorite animal shelter. The former Elizabeth Lamond Arthur was born March 25, 1918, in Dundee, Scotland, the daughter of David Ramsay Arthur and Lizzie Gair Lamond Arthur. She came to the United States with her parents at the age of seven. She graduated from the former New York State College for Teachers, now the University at Albany. She married Harry C. Wohlferth on August 30, 1947, in Schenectady, New York. Prior to her marriage, she was a planner in the turbine department of General Electric. She was a deacon and active in organizing the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed traveling with her husband visiting zoos and manufacturing plants. Her hobbies were knitting, sewing, needlework, and reading, and she loved animals. Betty is survived by her husband of 56 years, Harry; three daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Bruce Savage of Stratford, New Jersey, Judith and Thomas Schaefer of Reisterstown, Maryland, and Patricia and Henry Bethke of Algonquin, Illinois; four grandsons, Travis and Jason Schaefer and David and Patrick Bethke; a great-granddaughter, MacKenzie Schaefer; and a brother and sister-in-law, David and June Arthur of Overland Park, Kansas.
