Eleanor L. “Babe” Ackley

Eleanor L. “Babe” Ackley, 87, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Monday, July 9, 2012, in Trinity Moline.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a local no-kill animal shelter.

The former Eleanor Louanna Paysen was born November 7, 1924, in Princeton, Iowa, the daughter of August and Jennie (Rudolph) Paysen. She married Edward B. Ackley on February 23, 1946, in Davenport, Iowa. He died August 26, 2005.

Babe worked for Highland Park Bowl in Moline from the time it opened in 1959, until retiring on January 1, 1995. She was an avid bowler who bowled against several professionals over the years. She was a pioneer of one of the first Junior Bowling Programs in the Quad Cities and a charter member of the Ladies Whiteway League.

She enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, and playing cards of all kinds, especially blackjack at the casino. She was an avid Cubs fan and loved spending time with her family.

Eleanor is survived by her sons and a daughter-in-law, William and Gloria Ackley of Moline, and Donald Ackley of San Tan Valley, Arizona; grandchildren, Nicolas Ackley, Michael and Brittany Ackley, Gina and Marty Bundy, and Felicia VanHyfte; five great-grandchildren; and her cat, Sammy. She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Arline Weaver.
