Elaine Smart, 77, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at Trinity Pathway Hospice at Terrace Park, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Beulah Presbyterian Church, rural Orion, with The Reverend Charles Cunningham officiating. Burial is in Beulah Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Trinity Pathway Hospice or Beulah Presbyterian Church.
The former Elsie Elaine Garrity was born October 2, 1931, in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of Thomas and Florence (Morgan) Garrity. She graduated from Coal Valley High School and Brown?s Business College. She married Richard Smart on August 8, 1949, in Pocahontas, Arkansas. She was employed by Pleasant Valley School System for many years.
Elaine was a member of Beulah Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed bowling, square dancing, line dancing, bocce and many activities wintering in Arizona. She was most proud of her children and grandchildren.
Elaine is survived by her husband of 59 years, Richard; three children and their spouses, Jackie and John Kirk, Chris and Jean Smart, and David Smart and Linda Orr; grandchildren, Joshua Kirk and his wife Jessica, Jillian Kirk, Lisa Smart and Sarah Smart; her sister, Lois Mullen of Coal Valley; and special cousins, Gloria and Don Paulsen of Lynn Center, Illinois, and Duane and Betty Morgan of Coal Valley. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Dorothy Garrity.
