Edward A. "Eddie" Peters, 81, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Monday, April 6, 2015, at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois.

Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory with private burial at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Milan American Legion Post #569, where he was a member. Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory, Moline, is assisting the family.

Eddie was born May 1, 1933, in Rock Island, to Camiel and Margaret Ottilia (Vogel) Peters. He was raised by Margaret and George DeVriendt. He proudly served in the 2nd Armored Division of the United States Army for three years as a Combat Engineer.

He worked for Survus Rubber in Rock Island, retiring as an assistant to the pattern maker in 1994. He was a life member of the Rock Island VFW Post 1303. He enjoyed reading and cooking, and in his younger years, bicycling and ballroom dancing.

Eddie is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Chuck Wilder of Andalusia, Illinois; a daughter, Susan Hunt of Phoenix, Arizona; granddaughters, Erin Hunt Grossman and Jillie Hunt Chance; a great-granddaughter, Charlotte Chance; his companion of 19 years and the love of his life, Jewel Knochenmus of Rock Island; and nieces and nephews, Mike McCollom of Texas, Misty Ewing of Andalusia, Diane Peters of California, and Rich Peters of Taylor Ridge, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Peters.
