Edith M. Williams, 82, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013, in Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The former Edith Mae Beard was born October 7, 1930, in Buena Vista, Virginia, the daughter of Harry and Bertha (Garner) Beard. She married Leo F. Williams on May 21, 1953, in Buena Vista.
Edith was a Girl Scout leader, helped with the Boy Scouts, and was an active member of Faith Evangelical Church, Moline, where she was involved in the Women?s Bible Study and Bible school.
She was a polling-place judge for Rock Island County, and liked to read and do word puzzles. She was a faithful Chicago Cubs fan. Edith and her husband enjoyed traveling, taking many bus trips around the country. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and friends.
Edith is survived by her husband of 59 years, Leo; children, Fred and Aletha Williams of Taylor Ridge, Illinois, Patricia and Ronald Jones of Santaquin, Utah, Harry and Tomah Williams of Brighton, Illinois, Linda Ridnour of Coal Valley, and Robert and Shelley Williams of Rock Island; 15 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a brother, Harry Beard, Jr. of Denver, Colorado. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Williams, and sisters, Evelyn and Thelma.
