Delmar E. Kiefer, 83, of Moline, Illinois, well-known entertainer, died Tuesday, September 7, 2010, in Trinity Moline.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday, at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Rev. Dr. Wilfred Karsten officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A Time of Sharing will follow the visitation at 7 p.m., which will include a ?Magic Wand? ceremony led by Chuck Hanson, a fellow magician. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline, or Ronald McDonald House.
Delmar Edwin Kiefer was born June 11, 1927, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Emil and Olga Sutz Kiefer. He married Helen A. Myles on October 9, 1948, in Rock Island, Illinois. She died November 1, 1992. He married Myrtle McKay Andrews on May 10, 1994, in Moline. She died July 10, 2008.
Del served in the U. S. Army during WW II, and was employed as a truck driver for Sears, Roebuck and Company and Signal Delivery for 37 years, retiring in 1984. He worked many years as an entertainer, and was a magician and performed as Norman the Clown ?just for fun.? He was the second person hired to be Ronald McDonald, and continued for 27 years.
He was a long-time member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline, a 37 ?year member of Teamsters Local #371, and a member of Riverbend Storytellers, Society of American Magicians, and Magic Circle of London, England. He was a life member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, which renamed the illusion ?Ring #11? to the ?Magrum-Kiefer Ring? in 2007.
Del is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Frank Pouder of East Moline, Tyyne and Steve McIntire of Moline, and Denise and Ralph Conner of Milan; five grandchildren and their spouses, Jenie and Paul Graham, Alyssa and Mike Moody, David McIntire, Heather and Brian Coleman, and Lee and Shirley Conner; 13 great-grandchildren, Gavin, Gabe, and Gwen Graham, Owen, Noah, Maura, Ella, and John Moody, Lily, Samantha, and Madeline Coleman, and Aubrey and Ashlee Conner; a brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Martha Kiefer of Dunwoody, Georgia; a sister, Gloria Martin of Waukesha, Wisconsin; and a special friend, Marion Harris of Moline. He was preceded in death by his two wives, his parents, and a brother, Norman Kiefer.
