Dorothy Willhouse, 85, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Sunday, August 12, 2007, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley, with the Reverend Robert Hagen officiating. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Burial is at Coal Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
The former Dorothy Alice Nightingale was born December 3, 1921, in Coal Valley, the daughter of Henry and Nellie (Kraklow) Nightingale. She married Donald Willhouse on October 21, 1939, in Coal Valley. She owned and operated Don?s Royal Blue Grocery Store in Coal Valley and Cordova with her husband for 25 years. She also worked as an inspector at General Electric for 18 years.
She was very active in Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was a life-long member. She especially enjoyed being active in the Mary Martha Guild.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 67 years, Donald, five children and their spouses, Sharon Almquist of Osage Beach, Missouri, Donald Jr. and Laurel Willhouse of Baraboo, Wisconsin, Edward and Jackie Willhouse of Coal Valley, Peggy and Byron Eckhardt of Gainesville, Georgia, and Julie and Tom Ray of Cordova, Illinois, eleven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and sisters, Evelyn Engstrom of Coal Valley, and Madeline Sievers of Milan, Illinois. She was preceded in death by brothers, Johnny, Carl, and Bill Nightingale, sisters, Helen Toepher and Edna DeBaillie, and a son-in-law, Larry Almquist.
