Donald K. Ortiz

December 28, 1960 — November 15, 2022

Donald K. Ortiz, 61, of Davenport, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Bettendorf Health Care Center, after a long and valiant battle with serious illness.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with The Rev. James Parks officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline.

Donald Keith Ortiz was born December 28, 1960, in Moline, Illinois, the son of Eugene and Rachel (Jones) Ortiz. He married Shelly Stacey (Franklin) and together they rejoiced in the birth of their daughter, Cassandra Ortiz.

Don attended Moline Senior High School and retired early from the duties he performed so well for many years at HyVee Grocery Stores in a supervisor of janitorial services role. In this position he met several people who became his loving friends.

Don loved the symbolism of Eagles and the American Flag. He was extremely patriotic, a faithful servant of God and Country.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend, Don held an unwavering faith in God and enjoyed regular fellowship at Christ Church in Davenport. He became an ordained Minister and was proud to have presided over the wedding ceremony of his niece, Amber Glidwell, when she married her longtime sweetheart, Jason.

Don was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Ortiz, and twin grandsons; Jesse Lee James, and Frank Junior Claybrook II.

Don is survived by his daughter, Cassandra Ortiz (Jonakio) of Davenport; a grandson, Jonakio “Nocky” Williams; his mother, Rachel Ortiz of St. George, Utah; brothers, Chuck Ortiz of Moline; Stephen Ortiz (Lia) of Fort Myers, Florida; Gregg of Coal Valley, and Eric Ortiz of St. George, Utah. Don is also survived by two sisters, Darla Glidwell (Ted) of East Moline, and Pamala Ortiz of St. George, Utah. Don had very close and loving relationships with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In the final months of his life, Don cherished a special bond with his nephew, Stephen Ortiz, Jr., of Moline. He was deeply grateful to have expressed his love, devotion, and gratitude to Stephen on multiple occasions before his passing.

Cassandra and “Nocky” were central to Don’s life. There was no greater smile than the one produced on Don’s face by the way “Nocky” affectionately referred to him as his “paw-paw.” Don’s greatest hope was expressed as being that his beautiful daughter and grandson would move through life with grace, deep courage, and faith.
