Donald E. Johnson

Donald E. Johnson, 85, of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, November 24, 2013, in Park Vista, East Moline, Illinois.

Private services are 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to UnityPoint Health - Trinity Hospice or American Cancer Society.

Donald Eugene Johnson was born July 27, 1928, in Lynn Center, Illinois, to Gilbert and Hazel (Johnson) Johnson. He married Eleanor Downs in 1957. She preceded him in death in 1980. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War, and was a millwright at the Rock Island Arsenal for 32 years, retiring in 1983. He belonged to American Legion Post #246, Moline, enjoyed country music and was a avid NASCAR and Chicago Cubs fan.

Don is survived by siblings, Grace Hofreiter of Orion, Martha Shattuck, Dorothy Swanson, Hubert Johnson and Paul Johnson, all of Moline; many nieces and nephews; and step-sons, Denny Downs and Jeff Ferman, both of Alaska. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Mabelle Johnson, Harriet Newman, and Elijah Johnson.
