Dewey R. Southwood, 82, of Hampton, Illinois, died Monday, August 28, 2006, in Aspen Rehab and Health Center, Silvis, Illinois.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend Joseph Robb officiating. Burial is in National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. until funeral time Thursday at the funeral home.
Dewey Robert Southwood was born July 21, 1924, in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of George and Helen Iva (Lattin) Southwood. He served in the U. S. Army during WW II, and also served in the Army Transport Services and Coast Guard. He married Rita Ewing Moffitt on December 26, 1970, in Moline. He was a member of Local #91, Sheet Metal Worker?s Union, Rock Island, for over 50 years, retiring in 1988. He worked for various local contractors, last working for Johnson Contracting Company, East Moline, for 18 years. He was a member of Rock Island Lodge #190, Order of Moose. He skied into his 70?s, and loved his houseboat, ?Rita?s Condo.?
Dewey is survived by his wife, Rita; a son, Steven Moffitt of East Moline; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Raymond Spencer of Apple River, Illinois; a grandson, Mike Laermans of Silvis; a sister, Delores Southwood of Silvis; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Duane and Eileen Southwood of Rock Island, and Donald Southwood of Davenport.
