Delores "Tootie" Safe

On Saturday, August 12, 2017, the Lord took Delores "Tootie" Safe to her heavenly home to spend life eternal with her Savior Jesus Christ, at the age of 88.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4107 21st Avenue, Moline, with The Rev. Dr. Wilfred Karsten officiating. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, and from 10 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church.

The former Delores Margie Hanson was born in Lake Traverse, Minnesota, on August 18, 1928, the daughter of Adolph and Irene (Gabbert) Hanson, but was raised in Fairmount, ND. She moved to Rock Island when she was eighteen and married Gilbert D. Safe on June 11, 1949, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Island. Mrs. Safe worked at Bituminous Insurance Co. and later worked for the Rock Island Board of Education as a school Secretary at Longfellow Elementary. She retired in 1989, but worked as a substitute secretary and in the youth reading program in various Rock Island Schools for several years. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, and also belonged to the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She was a member of the Moline Activity Center, where she had been a volunteer, and also was an Auxiliary member of the VFW, Moline Post 21 53, and the Moline American Legion Post 246.

Mrs. Safe is survived by her daughter, Jill Safe of Moline; brother, Marvin Hanson of Coal Valley; nieces, Sherry Duburg of Moline, and Kathleen Peterson of Rock Island; nephew, Tim Hanson and his wife Betsy of Milan; four cousins and spouses, Jim and Karen Gabbert, Steve Gabbert, Ronald and Teri Gabbert and Loretta Tobias; great nephews; Joshua Duburg and Colin Hanson; great niece, Kali Peterson; and a dear friend of over 60 years, Betty Brewer.Preceding her death were her parents, her husband of 49 years, a sister-in-law, two uncles, two aunts and two cousins.
