Devolder Moorhusen

November 12, 1933 — January 7, 2012

Claremont, California, formerly of Moline, Illinois
Robert W. Moorhusen, 78, of Claremont, California, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Saturday, January 7, 2012, in California.
Services will take place in California. Memorials may be made to the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation, 10016 Foothills Blvd., Roseville, CA 95747. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family locally.
Robert was born November 12, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Harley and Sibyl (Stackhouse) Moorhusen. He received a bachelor?s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bradley University in 1957, and then a master?s degree in Optical Engineering from the University of Rochester in the late 1960?s.
He moved to Claremont in 1971 with his family after a work transfer from New York. He was an optical engineer for Xerox for 28 years, retiring in 1991. He helped to design the optics in many earlier Xerox copiers, and obtained many patents under the Xerox name.
Before he began to slow down in his later years, he loved to ski, camp, hike, and travel. His travels with his wife of almost 50 years, Ena, took him through a large part of the world. A lifelong passion for camping included years of large group camping trips with other local families, known as the ?Wild Turkeys?. Many times there would be ten or more different families. Nighttime campfires were an experience never to be forgotten.
Robert is survived by his wife, Ena; sons, Scott and Mark Moorhusen of California; a sister, Nonie (Gary) Young of Clearwater, Florida, a brother, Jim (Sunny) Moorhusen of Cordova, Illinois; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving extended family.
The family invites you to share stories and condolences and light a candle in Robert?s memory at www.TrimbleFuneralHomes.com.
