East Moline, Illinois Services for David J. Griffith, 84, of East Moline, are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the University of Iowa for Pulmonary Research. Mr. Griffith died Saturday, February 9, 2002, in University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City. David Jamieson Griffith was born December 22, 1917, in Carbon Cliff, Illinois, the son of Benjamin and Flora (McHenry) Griffith. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1940 with a bachelor degree in electrical engineering. He married Joyce M. Orendorf on October 11, 1942, in Moline. He was employed as an electrical engineer for Deere and Company for 30 years, retiring in 1978. After his retirement, he was associated with KJWW Engineering Consultants, Rock Island, for 12 years. He was a member of First Christian Church, East Moline, AARP, and National Rifle Association. He was an amateur radio operator, using the call sign W9SNU, since 1934. He enjoyed motorsports and all types of automobile racing. David is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy J. and Lloyd Page of Chandler, Arizona, Susan K. and John Grant of Simpsonville, South Carolina, and Claudia J. Griffith of Elbert, Colorado; five grandchildren, Scott L. Page of Kansas City, Missouri, Capt. John D. Page of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Jason Conder and his wife Stephanie of Normal, Illinois, Elizabeth Swedyk and her husband Edward of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Rebecca J. Plank of Asheville, North Carolina; one great-grandson, Alexander Conder; and a sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Norman Neely of Silvis, Illinois This memorial may be viewed, and condolences sent to the family, at www.TrimbleFuneralHomes.com.
