Aledo, Illinois Darlene Harmon, 72, of rural Aledo, Illinois, died Monday, September 20, 2004, in her home. Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan, with The Reverend Paul Pett officiating. Burial is in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Taylor Ridge, Illinois. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the church. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, is assisting the family. The former Darlene May Harkey was born January 24, 1932, near Buffalo Prairie, Illinois, the daughter of Harry and Katie (Mueller) Harkey. She graduated from Sherrard High School and attended Blackhawk College. She married Lyle Harmon on September 15, 1951, in Rock Island. She was employed in accounts payable at John Deere Parts Distribution Center, Milan, for 15 years, retiring in 1992. She previously worked at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan, where she was head organist and choir pianist and had taught Sunday school. She was a former member of the Genealogical Society and Illowa Handwriting Club. Music was her life, and she loved watching her grandchildren play sports, and enjoyed eating out with her friends on ‘girl's-night-out.' Darlene is survived by her husband of 53 years, Lyle; four children and their spouses, Dale and Kelly Harmon of Moline, Amy and Bruce Hunt of Coal Valley, Eileen and Larry Tysma of Hillsdale, and Melanie and David Flickinger of Milan; eight grandchildren, Christopher Thrap Jr., Kyle and Alyssa Harmon, Emily and Jacob Tysma, Wyatt and Lilah Flickinger, and Madeleine Hunt; three step-grandchildren; one great-grandson, Christopher Thrap III, a sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Addison Crouch of West Liberty, Ohio; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Merle and Irene Harkey of Flint, Michigan, Orville and Madeline Harkey of Coal Valley, Ivan and Freda Harkey of Preemption, Gene and Lura Harkey of Aledo, and Ruth Harkey of Rock Island.
