Michael D. Mitrisin, 84, of Moline, Illinois, died Friday, December 25, 2009, in Trinity Pathway Hospice at Terrace Park, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline, with Msgr. Dale Wellman officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery where Moline American legion Post #246 will present military honors. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with visitation following until 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Hand-in-Hand. 3860 Middle Road, Bettendorf, Iowa 52722.
Michael Donald Mitrisin was born October 15, 1925, in Mahaska County, Iowa, the son of Michael Clarence and Hulda Lee Mitrisin. He graduated from Oskaloosa, Iowa High School, attended Iowa State University, and graduated from Central College, Pella, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army in WW II, and earned a Bronze Battle Star in the European Theater.
Mike married Marilyn Glosser on December 11, 1946, in Oskaloosa. He was a design engineer for the U. S. Army Weapons Command at the Rock Island Arsenal for 26 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling, but his greatest joy was his family.
Mike is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marilyn; four children and their spouses, Michael G. and Vickie Mitrisin of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Bonita Elliff of Moline, Gregory and Charlotte Mitrisin of Moline, and Jeffrey and Laura Mitrisin of Plainfield, Illinois; six grandchildren, James Elliff, J. Elliff and his wife Em, Michael L. Mitrisin, Amy Mitrisin and her finance Kurt Rizzolo, Allie Mitrisin, and Joe Elliff; three honorary grandchildren, Nathanial McIntyre and Jennifer and Jacob Dehm; a brother and sister-in-law, Eldon and Christy Mitrisin of El Paso, Texas; and a sister, Rita Merrick of Glendale, Arizona. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Katie Mitrisin, a brother, Delbert Mitrisin, and a sister, Delores Street.
