Donald D. Maroon, 75, of Moline, Illinois, former Moline Fire Chief, died Monday, November 16, 2009, at his home.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Assembly of God Church, 3535 38th Avenue, Rock Island, with The Reverend Dan Qualls officiating. Burial is Noon on Friday at Brown Cemetery, Old Ripley, Illinois. Visitation is 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Donald Dean Maroon was born July 16, 1934, in Mulberry Grove, Illinois, the son of James and Eva Bimes Maroon. He graduated from high school in Greenville, Illinois, in 1952, and married Nelda Thompson on October 18, 1952, in Greenville. Don joined the Moline Fire Department in 1956, became Captain in 1975, and served as Fire Chief from 1978 until retiring in 1984. As Chief, he started the both the Paramedic Program and the Fireman Certification Program.
He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God, Rock Island, and Quad City Woodcarvers Association. He enjoyed all sports, especially golf and bowling.
Don is survived by his wife, Nelda; daughters and sons-in-law, Marci and Randy McCabe of Port Byron, Illinois, Karen and Jerry Boles of Henderson, Nevada, and Kathy Miller of Moline; five grandchildren and their spouses, Dustin Worthington, Jeremy and Danielle Boles, Melissa Boles, Amanda and Mike MacBrayne, and Forrest and Melissa Miller; two step-grandchildren and their spouses, Tami and Guy Gerard and Jeremy and Teanna McCabe; a great-grandson, Coleridge MacBrayne; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Connie Maroon of Neoga, Illinois. He was preceded in death by four sisters.
