Coral J. Meyer

Coral J. "Sam" Meyer, 76, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Monday, September 1, 2014, in her home, surrounded by her family.

Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Tim Snart officiating. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to the Coal Valley Lions Club for Christmas Food Baskets or to the family.

The former Coral June Dibble was born December 31, 1937, in Lacrosse, Wisconsin, to Orville Emmett and Phyllis June Miles Dibble. She married George Bowles in 1955, in Moline, Illinois, and they were later divorced. She married Charles Earl Meyer on April 28, 1973, in Canton, Illinois. She was a non-food receiver at Eagle Warehouse in Milan for 25 years, retiring in 1997. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley, and Coal Valley Lions Club, and in earlier years was active in PTA and her daughters' schools. She enjoyed reading.

Sam is survived by her husband, Charles; two daughters and a son-in-law, Rebecca and Charles Abbott of Davenport, Iowa, and Jennifer Bowles of Coal Valley; a grandson, Matthew Abbott; and siblings, Emmett Dibble and his wife Linda of Alvin, Texas, Elnor Simmons of Coal Valley, and Deborah Kauffman of Adamsville, Tennessee.
