Clarisse Wheeler, 87, of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, December 6, 2009, in her home.
Services are 1:00 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Moline, with The Reverends Deb and Flint Miller officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to the church or Shriner's Crippled Children?s Hospital. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is entrusted with arrangements.
Understanding the weather, Clarisse?s family extends a special invitation to her many Eastern Star friends to attend the visitation and funeral in lieu of an Eastern Star service the evening before.
The former Clarisse Cleo Marie Dhanens was born December 5, 1922, in Moline, the daughter of Leopold and Maria Elizabeth Verzele Dhanens. She married Clinton Richard Wheeler on June 29, 1947, in Moline. He died August 18, 2009.
Clarisse was an active member of First Baptist Church, Moline, where she had served as a Deaconess, president of the Women?s Council, and on the Decorating Committee. She was past Esther and past Marshall of Moline Chapter #258, Order of Eastern Star, past Lady of the Keys of Pyramid Temple #10, Daughters of the Nile, and a member of the Scottish Rite 33rd Degree Ladies Club. She enjoyed needlework, sewing, gardening and reading.
Clarisse is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janette and Wayne Duke of Fort Worth, Texas; a granddaughter, Dr. Lara Duke and her husband Scott Janish of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and a great-granddaughter, Brinna Janish. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a sister, Anna Williams.
