Charles C. Coon

Reynolds, Illinois Services for Charles C. Coon, 75, of Reynolds, Illinois, will be held at the Reynolds United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2002, with visitation at the church preceding the service from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service. Burial is in Reynolds Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Reynolds United Methodist Church of which he was a member. Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Coon died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, in Mesa, Arizona. He was born August 11, 1926, in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of C. R. and Ruth Converse Coon. After his service in WW II as a Lieutenant in the infantry, he graduated from the University of Iowa in 1950. That year he was married in Reynolds to Merriel Curtis, who was also a student at the University of Iowa. Prior to moving to Illinois in 1977, he had served in positions as a District Manager for the U. S. Chamber of Commerce, Executive Vice-President of Washington D.C. Board of Trade, and President of the American Mover's Conference of the American Trucking Association. From 1977 to 1985 he was Campaign Director of the Quad City United Way. He was a past commander of the Reynolds Community American Legion Post. He is survived by his wife, Merriel; daughters, Linda Coon of Oak Park, Kristin Yates and her husband Charles of Hartford, Connecticut; a son, Curtis Coon and his wife Maryanne of Monkton, Maryland; grandchildren Justin and Zachary Coon and Caitlin and Wyeth Yates; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Nell Coon of Springfield, Virginia. He was preceded in death by brothers George and Robert, the latter of whom died April 9, 2002, and by a son George Robert who died in 1977.
