Cecil Newberry, 91, of Princeton, Iowa, formerly of Davenport, Iowa, and Camanche, Iowa, died Sunday, February 6, 2011, in the Emergency room at Trinity Bettendorf.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Cecil Warren Newberry was born January 24, 1920, in Harris, Illinois, the son of Elza Edward and Grace Alma (Warren) Newberry. He married Vivian Leptien on January 12, 1939, in Davenport, Iowa. She died in May of 1986.
He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a truck driver for Rock Island Motor Transit Company in Davenport for 28 years, retiring in 1978. He worked for Carver Lumber in Princeton for five years after retirement.
Cecil is survived by children and their spouses, James and Shirley Newberry of Caulfield, Missouri, Mary Jane and Wallace Sachleben of Blue Grass, Iowa, Lawrence and Sandra Newberry of Rock Island, Illinois, and Sue Ann Newberry of Clinton, Iowa, 11 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Lee Newberry, brothers, Eugene and Wayne Newberry, and sisters, Lois Ripley and Louise Isley.
